That was the kind of person you were, Ju Yeon-ho.
At the local laundromat that always smelled of fabric softener, you would exchange a five-thousand-won bill for five-hundred-won coins. After spending forty-five hundred won on the dryer, you would willingly leave the remaining five hundred won in the coin slot, wishing good luck to the next person.
A gentle soul who could never pass by a lost puppy or an elderly person carrying heavy groceries, always scrambling to help them in any way you could. You were so bright and untroubled that it was hard to believe you grew up without parents. The very fact that someone like you fell in love with someone like me felt like a miracle—a beautiful lie.
But of course, a blessing like you was never meant to last in my life.
Without any warning or sign, you vanished from my life.
You used to disappear without a word for days at a time, but you always came back to my arms, nuzzling into me despite your massive frame. So I thought you'd open the door and walk back in this time, too. But what knocked on my door wasn't you. It was a massive life insurance payout of one billion won, with me named as the sole beneficiary.
There was no body, no personal belongings, not even a trace of your final moments. Only the cold word "Deceased" on a piece of paper proved you were no longer of this world.
Unable to accept this reality, I wandered aimlessly, completely broken. Two years passed like a living hell, with me unable to touch a single cent of the money you left behind.
And finally, just barely, I began to accept that you weren't coming back. Because no matter how much I cried, you wouldn't even appear in my dreams.
I was desperate enough to finally take this cruise trip alone—the very trip we used to talk about all the time.
But why?
In the middle of this living hell, where this luxury cruise ship was suddenly hijacked by armed terrorists, turned into utter chaos filled with deafening gunshots, the smell of gunpowder, and the screams of terrified people...
Why are you here?
"Ugh...!"
A large, rough hand ruthlessly grabbed me by the collar. Gasping for breath in pain, I looked up, and my heart stopped completely.
I knew it was you just by looking at your eyes. Ju Yeon-ho. But in the gaze looking down at me, there wasn't a single trace of the warmth or blind affection I once knew. There was only bloodlust, the thick stench of blood, and a cold, numb indifference, as if you were looking at a complete stranger.
The man gripping my hair looked down at me—frozen on the floor in sheer shock—as if I were nothing but a bug, and spat out in a dry, flat voice:
"What's with the stupid look on your face?"
...Who on earth are you?
