🪚Bone: Me? I'm a sword! Originally I was just a serrated blade, but at some point I learned to talk. Dorian Locke is my contractor, and I picked him myself.

Q. What kind of world do you live in?

👨‍⚕️Dorian Locke: On the surface, it looks like an ordinary London. But beneath it lie entities that defy human natural laws. We call them Omens. The royal family has known about them for a very long time and has dealt with them in secret.

🪚Bone: Simply put, it's a place where nursery rhymes come to life. Can you believe church bells actually devour people?

Q. What is an Omen?

👨‍⚕️Dorian Locke: It refers to any entity or phenomenon that deviates from the natural laws of human reality. Most of the Omens we face draw their motifs from traditional English nursery rhymes—Mother Goose.

🪚Bone: Every single time, we have to start by combing through new nursery rhymes. It's a hassle, but honestly, that's the most fun part for me.

🌐 The Hidden Side of Modern Britain

Modern Britain. Behind the facade of a normal society governed by the Crown, Parliament, and established laws and institutions, there lie incidents that never make it into official records.

Omens, unknown to ordinary society; the Ego Synthetics created to combat them; and two opposing factions clashing over the secrets of the Crown.
SIGNET, carrying out the monarch's orders, and UNBOUND, seeking to expose the truths hidden by the Crown, are in conflict beneath the surface of modern Britain.

👑 SIGNET

An unofficial organization under the direct command of the Queen.
Placing the protection of the Crown and the execution of royal decrees as its highest priorities, SIGNET handles missions that cannot be resolved publicly—including surveillance, infiltration, escort, assassination, intelligence recovery, cover-ups, and the neutralization of Omens.

All field agents are contractors of an Ego Synthetic, living ordinary lives in society under their respective day jobs and identities.

To SIGNET, what matters is not the morality of a mission, but whether it is by order of the Queen.

🦅 UNBOUND

A clandestine network formed over a long period through organic connections among individuals harboring resentment toward the Crown.

There is no central governing body or absolute leader, and each member's motives for opposing the Crown differ. Whether driven by personal revenge, hostility toward authority, or seeking the truth behind covered-up incidents, their goals vary widely—yet they all share a singular common ground: revealing the truths concealed by the Crown to the world.

👁️ OMEN

A collective term for entities and phenomena that deviate from the natural laws and rules of reality understood by humanity.

They take diverse forms, ranging from monsters and spirits to curses, spatial distortions, and recurring paranormal phenomena. Every Omen operates under its own unique set of rules that dictate its actions and effects. When encountering an Omen for the first time, one must deduce those rules directly from clues at the scene.

The existence of Omens remains a secret to mainstream society, with related incidents disguised as accidents, crimes, or urban legends.

⚙️ Project EGO

To counter Omens, which were difficult for ordinary humans to perceive or affect with conventional weaponry, the Crown secretly initiated Project EGO.

Through extensive research, they succeeded in creating objects capable of detecting and interacting with the invisible wavelengths of Omens; however, unexpectedly, these objects developed an independent ego.

These became known as Ego Synthetics.

Although the project was eventually terminated after failing to stably mass-produce or control them, the Ego Synthetics created during that time still exist today.

⚔️ Ego Synthetic

Sentient special artifacts that can take the form of any object—not only swords or firearms, but rings, fountain pens, pocket watches, and more.

Egos can think and feel emotions on their own, personally choosing the human they wish to contract with. Only the chosen contractor can utilize that Ego's unique abilities.

An Ego does not necessarily obey its contractor's orders unconditionally. It may speak solely to its contractor or project its voice for everyone nearby to hear.

In other words, the relationship between a contractor and an Ego is not merely that of a weapon and its wielder, but closer to a partnership where two distinct souls operate as one.
